Product Demonstration
Product demonstrations can increase immediate and future sales of the featured product. Introducing samples of new products to customers encourages them to buy a product they may not have otherwise tried. Demonstrating a product that is on sale further encourages customers to buy the product to cook at home.
Tips for product demonstrations:
- Demonstrators should be friendly and outgoing.
- The demoed product should be displayed nearby.
- Plastic gloves must be worn at all times when handling food and safe food handling procedures followed.
- Cook (if applicable) sample product to appropriate temperatures for food safety.
- Ensure an “Allergy Notice” is posted in a visible location.
- Place a small garbage can next to the demo table to encourage appropriate refuse disposal.
- Ensure the demonstrator is fully informed about the product, including cooking methods or recipe suggestions.
- Handouts, such as recipes or cooking instructions, should be available.
Other Means of Demonstrating Products
Some products are not easily demonstrated in-store (for example roasts, grilled items etc.). Cooking methods, recipe suggestions and meal ideas for these types of products can be demonstrated through audio-visual displays.
The Beef Information Centre has available DVD demonstrations of cooking methods and meal ideas for quick roasts, beef medallions, rotisserie roasts, and grilling. Playing the DVD in the meat department in close proximity to displays of the product being demonstrated, and providing recipe booklets for customers to take home, is a simple and cost-effective means to demonstrate beef products.
For more information on providing your customers with a DVD demonstration contact a member of the Beef Information Centre Retail Team.
